THOMASTON – Montpelier, the General Henry Knox Museum on Route 1, will be open for its annual Harvest Weekend from Saturday, Oct. 11, to Monday, Oct. 13. Full tours will be available every hour from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The museum will charge its regular admission fee.
The mansion is a replica of the original home of Knox, a Revolutionary War hero and Gen. George Washington’s right-hand man. Knox was appointed by Washington to be the nation’s first secretary of war. He commissioned the building of the frigate USS Constitution, Old Ironsides, harbored in Boston, and initiated plans for the building of the Army and Navy academies at West Point and Annapolis.
For information, call the museum at 354-8062. Large tours should make prior arrangements to assure adequate guides and service.
