AUGUSTA – Trooper Corey Smith of the Maine State Police said Sunday that a previous medical condition caused an accident on Route 1 in Northport last July that injured a Tennessee couple.

Smith said the accident report indicates that Karen Roberts, 51, of Belfast could have gone into diabetic shock when her truck crossed the centerline on Route 1 and crashed into a motorcycle.

The couple on the bike, Cecil and Linda Gentry, both 52, were flown to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor with serious injuries.

The accident was not alcohol-related, Smith said. The tests have been done.

His office is awaiting reports from the accident reconstructionist and motor vehicle inspectors, Smith said.

All of the information eventually will be turned over to the Waldo County District Attorney’s Office for review, he said.
