WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud on Monday encouraged Mainers who haven’t already filed for their rebate checks to do so before the Internal Revenue Service’s Oct. 15 deadline.

Last February, a law enacted by Congress provided millions of eligible Americans with tax relief, but, according to the IRS, not everyone who is eligible has filed for the stimulus payments.

“As the deadline nears, I don’t want any eligible Maine retiree or veteran to miss this opportunity,” said Michaud, who represents Maine’s 2nd District. “While the rebate checks provide only a modest amount of money, in the face of high fuel prices this winter and other rising expenses, every little bit can help.”
