Raising the Bah

It’s Bah’s World, we just live in it. Bah’s Bakehouse and Stella’s in Castine, both owned by the talented and charming Bah Macomber, has launched a spiffy new Web site, designed by Tirranna LLC. On www.bahsworld.com plugged-in foodies can view videos of Bah and her friends and co-workers making some of the delicious recipes available at the bakehouse and at Stella’s, the restaurant and jazz bar she opened last summer. Point your browser to the Cooking With Bah section and learn how to make curried carrot soup, trout pate, Thai noodle salad and strawberry rhubarb pie, and get some tips on wines to pair with the recipes. Summer hours are still in effect, but check back after Columbus Day for fall and winter hours.

The long and wining road

Blue Hill’s third annual Foliage Food & Wine Festival runs from Thursday, Oct. 16, through Sunday, Oct. 19, and features a smorgasbord of delights from the region’s restaurants and businesses. Start the long weekend with a six-course wine dinner at 6 p.m. Thursday at Arborvine. Then make a rather difficult decision, when you must choose between two wine dinners, both set for 6:30 p.m. Friday. The Lookout Inn & Restaurant in Brooklin hosts a six-course dinner featuring Berringer wines, while a Latin-influenced dinner is set for the Blue Hill Inn, in collaboration with El El Frijoles and the Blue Hill Wine Shop. Saturday, save some tummy space for a three-course luncheon from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wescott Forge, featuring wines from Sow’s Ear Winery. Finally, close your weekend out Sunday with “A Taste of the Peninsula,” with more than 25 restaurants, bakers, brewers, wineries, farms and suppliers represented, starting at 11 a.m. on the grounds of Arborvine. And that doesn’t even include the cheese tastings, beer tastings, pastry tastings and special sales and discounts offered by various businesses. Maine gets a Face lift

The social juggernaut that is Facebook has both fans and foes of the various user-made applications you can add to your profile. Some people like to be zombies, or throw sheep at each other; personally, I find it highly irritating. But one application that I did gladly add to my profile was the Maine Stuff! application, which allows you to send to each other such beloved Maine items as whoopie pies, fiddleheads, Gifford’s Ice Cream, Humpty Dumpty potato chips and Jordan’s red hot dogs. Created by a Facebook user named Elizabeth Reed, the Maine Stuff! application has been floating around Facebook for several months. The most popular item to send? Why, our state alcoholic beverage, of course: Allen’s Coffee Brandy. Obviously, you can use Maine Stuff! only if you’re a Facebook user, so you might as well give in and join the teeming masses. Resistance is futile!
