Democrat
Emily Ann Cain
Age: 28
Hometown: Orono
Address: 103 Forest Ave.
Education: Ed.M. (higher education), Harvard University, 2004; B.M.E. (vocal music education), University of Maine, 2002; Lawrence High School (N.J.), 1998
Family: Married to the Hon. Daniel B. Williams
Occupation: Coordinator of Advancement, part time, Honors College, UMaine; doctoral student in higher education, part time, UMaine; co-owner, Emerald Group, LLC (apartments-condominiums)
Experience: Since 2004, I have been a member of the Appropriations and Financial Affairs and Education and Cultural Affairs committees. I have also chaired the Joint Select Committee on Research, Economic Development, and the Innovation Economy, and a legislative study of alternative education programs. Outside Augusta, music is my greatest passion and I participate regularly in community productions and events as a vocalist. I have community experience through organizations such as the American Association of University Women, the Maine Coalition for Excellence in Education, and as an adviser to student organizations at UMaine, including the Chi Omega Fraternity. As a legislator, I have participated in several national and regional leadership programs, and have traveled on international policy exchanges to Venezuela and Europe.
Reason for running: My priority is to support families through the winter ahead, and to put Maine on a sustainable path through support for Pre-K-12 and higher education, research, economic development, affordable health care, transportation infrastructure, affordable energy and responsible budgeting. I am ready to face this challenge because of my Augusta experience and my willingness to both learn and lead during tough times.
