COA’s Dorr Museum plans several autumn workshops

BAR HARBOR – The College of the Atlantic’s George B. Dorr Museum of Natural History will host a series of autumn workshops during the month of October:

1:30-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11 – “Why the Leaves Turn Color,” a natural history walk through College of the Atlantic’s campus, concluding with a treat of chemical magic at the museum. Cost is $3, free to museum members. Pre-registration is requested.

10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Oct. 18 – “Fire Making: Power of Prometheus,” with Luka Negotia, a trained wilderness survivor. Cost is $3, free to museum members. Available for ages 12 and up; those under 18 need to be accompanied by a parent. Preregistration is requested.

1-4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18 – Mask-Making workshop: create a papier-mache mask of a favorite Maine animal or a botanical mask from leaves while learning a bit of natural history. Cost is $5, $3 for museum members. Preregistration is requested.

After dark, Saturday, Oct. 25 – Halloween Celebration. Once again, COA offers its popular Nature of Halloween event, with ghoulish guides bewitching visitors with tales of how spiders, snakes and skeletons became entangled with the spooky night of Halloween. Reservations requested
