ORONO – Ian Staples scored both goals while leading his Orono Red Riots to a 2-0 schoolboy soccer victory over the Old Town Coyotes on Wednesday.

Lee Hecker and Brandon Paul each had an assist for the 10-3 Red Riots. A.J. Coleman saved all eight shots he faced for Orono’s fifth shutout.

Alex Caballero and Lee Larry combined to make eight saves on 10 shots for the 6-4-2 Coyotes.

JV: Orono 5-1

Dexter 1, DI-Stonington 0

At Dexter, Andrew Lary netted the only goal of the game on an assist from Lee Gustin 21:52 into the first half as Dexter topped Deer Isle-Stonington.

Nathan Wyman turned aside eight of 13 shots for the 8-1-3 Tigers.

Eben Powers made 25 saves on 41 shots for the 4-5-2 Mariners.

Penobscot Valley 1, Schenck 0

At Howland, Leigh Dolley scored the game-winning goal with 2:54 left in the game to lift Penobscot Valley past Schenck of East Millinocket.

Charlie Gardner tallied the assist on the winning goal. Jacob Jones made five saves on seven shots for the 8-2-2 Howlers.

Ryan Thompson saved 16 of 20 shots for 1-10-1 Schenck.

Lee 4, Penquis 3

At Lee, Crsten Kaiser scored three goals, including on a penalty kick with 4:51 to play that gave Lee Academy the win.

Hector Guttierrez added a goal and Owen Ouo, Jaron Oh and Claudius Kessler assists for the 4-6-1 Pandas. A.J. Harris saved 10 of 16 shots.

Ryan Bailey tallied a goal and assist for 2-9-1 Penquis of Milo. Jesse McLaughlin and John Portillo also scored while Lucas Grinnell had an assist. Richie Russell had 11 saves on 18 shots.

John Bapst 2, Bucksport 1

At Bangor, Jason McBernie netted the winning goal with 20:36 remaining in the game as John Bapst edged Bucksport.

Jordan Meyers grabbed the assist on the winning goal. Miles Gagnon scored an unassisted goal for John Bapst in the first half. Casey Hull stopped 11 of 17 shots for the 5-4-2 Crusaders.

Jordan Trasko scored for 2-9 Bucksport off a pass from John Goodin. Joe Goodin made seven saves on 10 shots for the Golden Bucks.

Brewer 5, Lawrence 0

At Brewer, Luke Thomas and Ray Bissette each had a goal plus an assist as Brewer blanked Lawrence of Fairfield.

Ryan Nadeau, Jacob O’Donnell and Brian Kelley added goals and Shawn Williams an assist for the 5-4-2 Witches. Brian Kearns had three saves on five shots.

Codey Fabian saved 11 of 20 shots for 3-6-1 Lawrence.

JV: Brewer 3-0

Ellsworth 6, Hermon 1

At Ellsworth, junior strikers Zach Emeigh and Matt Duhaime each scored three goals to power the Eagles.

Emeigh also had two assists, and Nick Kelley and Adam Kaspala posted one assist each.

Jordan Carter, Thomas Sawyer and Justin Kane split goalkeeper duties for 9-1-1 Ellsworth, combining for four saves on seven shots.

Joel Adams broke up the shutout bid midway through the second half with the game’s final goal, and Cory Johnson made eight saves on 20 shots for the 2-9-1 Hawks.

MDI 6, George Stevens 1

At Bar Harbor, Abe Gladstone recorded a hat trick while Carl Ferm had two assists to lead the Trojans past George Stevens of Blue Hill.

Tyler Steel and Dennis O’Neil had goals and Ben Steel a goal and an assist for 5-5-1 MDI while Matt Weber added an assist. Iz Ward and Jake Mincton combined for two saves on four shots.

Lucas Yoder scored with Pierre Dillon getting the assist for 4-7-1 GSA. Josh Gale and Matt Hines combined for eight saves on 16 shots.

Washington Acad. 7, Sumner 1

At East Machias, Sung Min Kim, Nicko Forte and Nick Hickson scored two goals apiece to power Washington Academy by Sumner of East Sullivan.

Milos Gautier added a goal for 11-1 Washington Academy. Bryce Colbeth and Sam Stevens combined to make six saves on nine shots for the Raiders.

Marcos Lau netted a goal for Sumner. Mike Crowley, Josh Ring and Alex Rojo combined for 11 saves on 35 shots for the 1-11 Tigers.

Field hockey

Stearns 3, Piscataquis 0

At Millinocket, Angela Levesque scored on a penalty stroke while Audrianna Eurich and Kaylee Bradford added unassisted goals as Stearns triumphed.

Kirsten Marter saved the only shot she faced for the 8-3 Minutemen.

Brianna Tweedie came up with 16 saves on 28 shots for 0-12 Piscataquis of Guilford.

Orono 1, Mattanawcook 0

At Orono, the Red Riots’ Amy Mares scored midway through the second half during a scramble in front of the Lynx goal.

Amber Saucier made four saves on seven shots for 4-8 Orono, while Colleen Albert made four saves on eight shots for Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln, also 4-8.

Girls soccer

Lee Academy 4, Schenck 1

At East Millinocket, Heidi Sappier, Jenna Cowan, Katelyn Mallet and Kim Cushman scored and Felicia Thornton made 19 saves on 23 shots as Lee Academy improved to 4-5-1.

Kristina Jamo scored for 2-9 Schenck and Kira Burleigh made 17 saves on 22 shots.

Dexter 3, Penquis 2

At Dexter on Tuesday, Sara Domenech scored the winner off an Alexis Mitchell assist with 2:24 remaining in the second half to lead Dexter to victory.

Mitchell scored in the first half with an assist from Sarah Murray for the 4-5-1 Tigers. Miranda Gove assisted Megan Collopy’s second-half goal. Maicee Gustin saved five of 10 shots.

Sadie Zambrano and Kambrea Atkinson each scored a goal for 1-8-1 Penquis of Milo. Lindsey Rideout assisted Zambrano’s first-half goal. Erica Lyford and Kristyn Chapman combined for 23 saves on 31 shots.

Woodland 2, Narraguagus 0

At Harrington, Kacie Burke and Chastity Beach each notched a goal for Woodland as the Dragons shut out Narraguagus.

The Woodland keeper stopped all three shots on goal for the 6-3-1 Dragons.

Beth Rofe made three saves on four shots for the 1-8-1 Knights.
