BANGOR – Missionaries at home and abroad will speak tonight and this weekend at a conference at Columbia Street Baptist Church, 63 Columbia St.

The Rev. Magda Aguirre, a professor at a seminary in Santa Ana, El Salvador, will speak at 7 tonight, at 9 a.m. Saturday and to the Sunday school and at the worship service at 10:15 a.m. Sunday.

Aguirre works in leadership development with the Baptist Federation helping churches in El Salvador strengthen their leadership by training pastors to become more effective counselors and planning work for them. She also assists women in social programs and in projects to empower them to be more effective in society and church.

The Rowe family, who work for Wycliffe Bible Translators in West Africa, will speak at 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Saturday. David and Jenny Rowe and their teenage sons Brian and Mark live in Cotonou, Benin. Jenny Rowe manages the administrative office and relates to government, church and academic partners.

David Rowe is a computer consultant. He has been instrumental in adapting linguistic and translation software for use by French speakers, according to conference organizers.

Benin is in West Africa on the northern coast of the Gulf of Guinea. It borders Niger to the north, Togo to the west and Burkina Faso on the northwest.

Missionaries who focus their work in Bangor also will participate. Rick Tardiff of the Shaw House, the shelter for homeless teens, and Wanda Seymour of the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter for adults will take part in the conference. They will conduct a workshop together at 11 a.m. Saturday. Seymour also sill speak at the 10:15 a.m. Sunday worship service.

Other events will include a lasagna supper at 5 p.m. Saturday and a concluding worship service at 6 p.m. Sunday.
