Amanda is a kind-hearted, social teenager who enjoys playing games and going to church. All of her favorite activities would be more enjoyable for her if she had a family to do them with.
She is funny and easy to spend time with. She likes to read and go for car rides. Amanda does well in the community and enjoys going on outings. She likes all types of animals and is excited by the prospect of having pets of her own someday.
Amanda is good at math and says she likes school. She attends a day treatment program to assist her with her academics and keep her on task during the day. She is often the person who stands up for others in the school and looks out for the “underdog.”
The best family for Amanda would be able to provide her with structure and consistency. She is vocal about what she is looking for in a family. Amanda would like to be an only child in a home with a single mother. Amanda’s caseworker, however, feels could do well in a variety of settings.
She is one of the 150 children in the care of the state Department of Health and Human Services who is seeking an adoptive family. Based in Gardiner, A Family for ME is a nonprofit program that works in collaboration with DHHS to find foster and adoptive families for Maine children in care.
