Pellet gun firing draws sentence

MACHIAS – A Jonesport man was sentenced Thursday in Washington County Superior Court to two years in prison with all but three months suspended for shooting at passing cars with a pellet gun.

Some of the cars were on their way to a local high school prom.

In July, the Washington County grand jury charged Cory C. Robinson, 18, with reckless conduct and aggravated criminal mischief.

Two months earlier, Robinson and a juvenile co-defendant who was not identified by police, shot at the cars as they were driving on the Indian River Road, Route 187.

On Thursday Judge E. Allen Hunter sentenced Robinson, who has been in jail for the past 93 days, to two years to the Department of Correction with all but three months suspended. Robinson was given credit for time served.

As part of his probation, First Assistant District Attorney Paul Cavanaugh said Thursday, Robinson had to spend the first three months of his probation under house arrest. “That will be for 24 hours, seven days a week,” Cavanaugh added. “He can’t leave the house except to go for medical stuff.”

The judge also ordered Robinson to pay nearly $2,700 in restitution to people whose cars he had damaged including broken windows and dented metal.

As to the disposition of the juvenile’s case Cavanaugh said, “We are not talking about that until his case is resolved.”
