ORONO – When people return to the former Maine Center for the Arts after its reopening as the Collins Center early next year, they will enter a lobby named for the Hannaford Charitable Foundation.

The foundation made a $100,000 gift to the renovation of the Orono facility, which is designed as the region’s premier performing arts venue. An extensive $11 million expansion and remodeling began in 2007.

The entire building has been renamed for Richard R. and Anne A. Collins of Northport, UM graduates who made a $5 million donation to the project last year.

Arts programming has continued during the remodeling, with music, theater and other events presented at other UM facilities and at venues around Maine.
