UNITY – Two people were hospitalized Sunday after the dirt bike they were riding drove into the cellar hole of a home under construction.
David Kinch, 22, of Troy and his passenger, Adrienne Patenaude, 21, of Sidney, were taken by Unity Ambulance to Inland Hospital in Waterville after the 12:24 p.m. accident. Patenaude suffered facial cuts and a split lip and Kinch complained of back pain. Both suffered multiple cuts to their hands and feet, Waldo County Deputy Sheriff Gene Rega said Monday.
Rega said the accident occurred on a driveway off Thorndike Road next to Chase’s Toys. Rega said the dirt bike drove up the driveway and sailed into the 12-foot-deep cellar hole. He said the dirt bike landed beyond the middle of the hole and flipped over. Kinch was wearing a helmet, Patenaude was not, Rega said.
“Mr. Kinch said he was driving that field a week ago and that hole wasn’t there,” Rega said. “There was a bulldozer and an excavator parked there and he should have been more careful.”
Rega said that because the incident was an off-road accident, he turned the matter over to the Maine Warden Service.
