PORTLAND – The Maine Hospice Council will hold a conference to address grief and trauma in the lives of people with mental illnesses, physical illnesses, intellectual disabilities and criminal behavior as well as veterans and immigrants from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at the Eastland Park Hotel.
Jeffrey Kauffman will begin by addressing unrecognized grief and etiologies of traumatic grief. He will discuss grief and trauma in diverse special populations and address those concerns on an individual and universal level.
Kauffman has taught courses at Bryn Mawr College and Widener University. He also founded and ran “The Institute for Spirituality and Psychological Healing.” He has given hundreds of lectures and published many articles and books. Many of his publications are directed toward loss, mourning and trauma.
Opening remarks will be offered by Juliana L’Heureux, executive director of the Maine Association of Mental Health Services. The price for the conference is $129. Preregistration is advised.
