KITTERY – Kittery this week will become the latest Maine town to unveil a municipal wind turbine.
The town will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony today for the 50-kilowatt turbine at the town’s solid waste facility.
Town Manager Jon Carter said a Colorado company was awarded a $185,000 bid to construct the turbine, and that the machine will have a payback in 10 to 15 years.
Residents living near the turbine earlier expressed concerns about noise levels, but Carter said he held a conversation at the base of the tower this week without having to raise his voice.
