GREENVILLE – Rainy and cloudy weather started off the day in northern Maine as the second week of moose hunting got under way. Hunting ends Saturday for the 1,747 hunters eligible to take part in this segment of the season.

The first session ran Sept. 22-27. This year, a limited November hunt lasting nearly all month will be held in some districts for 135 permit holders.

Altogether, more than 3,200 permits were issued for Maine’s 2008 moose hunt.

The National Weather Service said as this week’s hunt began that cloudy weather and showers were expected to clear out Monday afternoon in northern and eastern Maine.
