Old Town man arrested trying to steal car part

An Old Town man was arrested Sunday night after he was caught red-handed trying to steal a catalytic converter from a 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer.

After his arrest on criminal mischief and criminal attempt charges, Everett Jenkins, 45, was taken to Penobscot County Jail in Bangor, where he remained until Monday, when he was released on $140 cash bail.

The trouble began when an employee of Sullivan’s Wrecker Service on Stillwater Avenue in Old Town noticed a flashlight beam underneath his boss’s pickup, Sgt. Travis Roy of the Old Town Police Department said Monday.

The worker, who was sitting in another truck doing paperwork, called the police.

Upon their arrival, Old Town police Sgt. Mike Hashey and Officer Lori Renzullo sneaked up to the truck and waited for Jenkins to come out from under the truck. When he did, he was holding a set of cutting tools.

“OK – you got me,” Jenkins allegedly told the two police officers.

An incident Sunday at the Deb Shop at the Bangor Mall resulted in two arrests.

Bangor police initially were called to the women’s clothing store after a fight broke out among a male minor from Bangor, whose name was not released because of his age, Anthony Landry, 19, of Levant and 21-year-old Aaric Rowe of Bangor.

The minor and Landry were at the mall store with a teenage girl and her father, according to police reports. While there, they got into a verbal exchange with Rowe that eventually turned physical. Mall security intervened and the minor and Landry fled the mall.

Police caught up with the minor and Landry at the nearby Oriental Jade restaurant.

“They looked winded,” police noted in their report on the incident. Landry was charged with disorderly conduct and was taken to Penobscot County Jail. He was released on bail later in the day. The minor was taken to the Bangor Police Department, where police learned he was on probation. No further information was available about that aspect. (Dawn Gagnon, BDN)

The mall incident did not end there. As it turned out, Rowe was wanted on a federal warrant for a firearm violation.

He also was taken to Penobscot County Jail, where he remained Monday night awaiting an appearance before a U.S. magistrate judge. Because federal and state courts were closed Monday for Columbus Day observance, that could not occur until today at the earliest. (Dawn Gagnon, BDN)
