Jeffrey C. Lewis has joined the Allen Agency of Camden as a commercial lines agent, specializing in ocean marine insurance and sustainable energy development insurance. Lewis has more than 20 years’ experience in the marine industry. He is a licensed ship’s captain, having crewed for a variety of vessels in New England, the Caribbean and Europe. His previous work experience also includes time as a senior instructor and course director for the Hurricane Island Outward Bound School, emergency department chaplain at Maine Medical Center and personnel and safety manager at Wayfarer Marine Corp. in Camden. A native of Galveston, Texas, Lewis is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and holds a Master of Divinity degree from Bangor Theological Seminary. Active in the community, he has served as on-call chaplain to Pen Bay Healthcare, is president of the board for the Teen Center Inc. in Camden and is a member of the town’s harbor committee. He lives in Camden with his wife and their three sons.
Janet Blood has been hired to replace the longtime dean of library services at Eastern Maine Community College, Karen Reilly, who retired in June. Blood had been an associate librarian with the college for the previous two years. In her new job, Blood is responsible for the library collection development, acquisitions and budget in addition to supervising day-to-day operations and maintaining and developing internal and external connections to resources, volunteers and agencies. Recently elected to serve on the Minerva Executive Committee, which governs the consortial statewide Minerva library system, Blood also will serve on Eastern Maine Community College’s College Senate. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine and a master’s degree in library science from the University of South Carolina. Blood and her husband, Paul, and young son live in Orono.
Wade Merritt has been promoted from director of operations to vice president of the Maine International Trade Center. Merritt served as director of the Bangor regional office for several years and as a senior trade adviser. He has been a speaker at national conferences on a variety of topics, including NAFTA, trade with Canada, and state-federal relations in setting trade policy.
