SWANVILLE – The Waldo County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a break-in at the town office that was discovered Sunday.
Chief Deputy Robert Keating said nothing appeared to have been taken during the break-in but there was evidence that the intruder attempted to force open the town’s safe.
Keating said the burglary occurred sometime between when the office closed Friday afternoon and 3:50 p.m. Sunday, when a town employee discovered the break-in. Entrance was gained by forcing a rear window. A locked interior door leading to the day care portion of the building also was forced, though nothing was taken from that area either, he said Tuesday.
County Sgt. James Porter, Detective Jason Bosco, Maine State Police Sgt. Dave Tripp and Detective Jason Andrews processed the crime scene.
