Jovan Belcher of the University of Maine has been named The Sports Network’s Football Championship Subdivision National Defensive Player of the Week.
The senior defensive end from West Babylon, N.Y., made seven tackles, including two sacks, and forced two fumbles in the Black Bears’ 27-10 victory at Delaware.
Belcher, the Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week, is tied for third in the league in sacks (4.0), is fourth in tackles for a loss (8.0), and fifth in tackles (8.7 per game).
