Longstaff sparks Houlton Mortland helps Presque Isle remain undefeated

HOULTON – Pat Longstaff netted two goals, including the game-winner with 5:57 remaining in the match, to spark the Houlton boys soccer team past Schenck of East Millinocket 2-1 on Wednesday.

Ryan VanBuskirk made seven saves on eight shots for the 4-9-1 Shiretowners.

Aaron Hutchins scored for Schenck on an assist from Josh Brown. Ryan Thompson stopped 13 of 15 shots for the 1-12-1 Wolverines.

Presque Isle 6, Fort Kent 0

At Presque Isle, Russ Mortland scored three goals to power Presque Isle by Fort Kent.

Eric Morris posted two goals and an assist while Josh Allen added a goal. Nathaniel Postell and Warren Zubrick each had an assist for 12-0-1 Presque Isle. Dillon Kingsbury made two saves on five shots for the Wildcats.

Matthew Harvey stopped 20 of 30 shots for 8-5-1 Fort Kent.

JV: PI 4-1

Katahdin 13, Hodgdon 0

At Stacyville, Ethan Qualey scored three goals and had two assists as Katahdin cruised past Hodgdon.

Marshall Davis, Rich Qualey, Victor Clukey and Micah Rodgerson scored two goals apiece while Matt Kay and Matt Tarr each netted one. Peter Johnson and Davis each had three assists for Katahdin. Jesse McNally made four saves on eight shots for the 13-0-1 Cougars.

Josh Murchie stopped 32 of 56 shots for 3-10 Hodgdon.

John Bapst 2, MDI 1

At Bangor, Andrew Casey netted the winning goal with 1:45 left in the match as John Bapst edged Mount Desert Island.

Miles Gagnon also scored in the second half and assisted on the winning goal. Casey Hull stopped nine of 11 shots for the 7-5-2 Crusaders.

Peter Grubb scored for the Trojans on an assist from Abe Gladstone. Iz Ward made six saves on nine shots for 7-6-1 MDI.

JV: MDI 2-1

Washington Acad. 3, Machias 1

At Machias, Washington Academy scored three goals in the last 15 minutes of the match as the Raiders of East Machias defeated Machias.

Noah Von Rotz netted two goals while Milos Gautier scored one for Washington Academy. Bryce Colbeth blocked seven of 13 shots for the 13-1 Raiders.

Matt Little scored for Machias. Michael Jenkins made 17 saves on 22 shots for the 9-4 Bulldogs.

Ellsworth 2, George Stevens 0

At Ellsworth, Garrett Kaspala registered two goals to lead Ellsworth by George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill.

Andrew Austin and Zach Emeigh each grabbed an assist. Jordan Carter stopped both shots he faced for 12-1-1 Ellsworth.

Nate Hines made 14 saves on 16 shots for 5-8-1 George Stevens Academy.

Girls soccer

Houlton 6, Hodgdon 0

At Houlton on Tuesday, Lainey Herring recorded a hat trick as the Houlton Shiretowners cruised to victory.

Chelsi Murray, Brooke Deveau and Vanessa Sanderson scored one goal apiece for 7-5-1 Houlton. Madison Lezotte made four saves on seven shots.

Megan Jurson made seven stops and faced 14 shots for 5-6-1 Hodgdon.

Katahdin 3, Hodgdon 0

At Stacyville, Melissa Duffy and Mary Jo Robinson each had a goal and an assist to lead the Katahdin Cougars past the Hodgdon Hawks.

Marie Heath scored one goal for the 7-5-2 Cougars. Jade Clippinger and Dani-Beth Cyr combined to save all 11 shots they faced.

Emmaly Jurson made 16 saves on 19 shots for the 5-7-1 Hawks.

Calais 2, Woodland 0

At Woodland, Honor Wilkinson and Lauren Remington each notched a goal in the second half to propel Calais by Woodland.

Hillary Hollingdale made 17 saves on 22 shots for the 5-4-1 Blue Devils.

Taylor Cochran blocked 17 of 31 shots for 6-4-2 Woodland.

Old Town 7, Central 1

At Old Town, Katie Deshane and Megan Cousins scored two goals apiece to lead Old Town to victory over Central of Corinth.

Deshane finished the regular season with 19 goals, an Old Town girls’ record. Erin St. Peter, Elise Jordan and Hilary Campbell each added a goal for Old Town. Annie Cashon made three saves on five shots for the 10-3-1 Coyotes.

Briana Speed netted a goal for Central. Shari Shina stopped 11 of 24 shots for the 2-12 Red Devils.

JV: Old Town 5-4

Field hockey

Dexter 1, John Bapst 0

At Bangor, Katie Eastman notched the game’s only goal with 26:25 left in the game to lead the undefeated Tigers past John Bapst.

Sam Conway saved three of six shots to earn her seventh shutout of the year for Dexter, which finished its regular season with a 14-0 record.

Megan Smith stopped 10 of 11 shots for the 5-8-1 Crusaders.

JV: Dexter 10-0
