A Hampden man faces a variety of charges after a shopping spree Tuesday night at two Bangor stores.
Jonathan Stacey, 20, of Hampden had been at Ski Rack Sports on Longview Drive when store personnel saw him leave with a shirt he allegedly hadn’t paid for, according to Bangor police. As Stacey left the store, staffers noted the license plate number from his pickup truck and called the police, Lt. Jeff Millard of the Bangor Police Department said.
When Officer Michael Brennan arrived, Ski Rack employees told him that Stacey had gone to the nearby Target store, also on Longview. Shortly after Brennan located Stacey’s truck at Target, Stacey exited the store wearing the shirt from the Ski Rack, Millard said.
As Brennan was questioning Stacey, personnel from Target approached Brennan and told him they believed Stacey had taken a watch from their store. The watch was found in Stacey’s possession, Millard said.
Stacey’s troubles with the law didn’t end there. A computer check revealed that he was driving without a license, Millard said. A search of his truck turned up a trace amount of cocaine as well as drug paraphernalia, police said.
In the end, Stacey found himself charged with two counts of theft and one count each of operating after suspension of his driver’s license, unlawful possession of a Schedule W drug and sale or use of drug paraphernalia.
Stacey was arrested and taken to Penobscot County Jail, where he made bail later that night. (Dawn Gagnon, BDN)
