BANGOR – The Temple of Advanced Enlightenment will hold a theological discussion on the religious and spiritual use of cannabis at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, at the Union Street Brick Church, 126 Union St.

“We are working peacefully to educate people about spiritual use and its benefits,” the Rev. Kevin Loring of the temple said.

The church, according to Loring, is planning to petition the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency for a religious exemption similar to the one granted to the Native American Church.

The temple was founded by Loring, a member of the Penobscot Nation.
