DOVER-FOXCROFT – A no-cost women’s health screening day is scheduled next Tuesday at Mayo Regional Hospital.
Patients will see a provider for a breast examination, and will receive free mammograms for breast cancer screening at Mayo Regional Hospital’s Imaging Center for Women, funded by the Maine Breast and Cervical Health Program.
The Oct. 21 event is for Maine women older than 40 who have little or no health insurance. There are limited openings for women ages 40-49, with priority given to symptomatic or high-risk women. Women with MaineCare or Medicare Part B are not eligible. Preregistration is required by calling 800-350-5180.
Also, Mayo Regional Hospital will offer free mammograms throughout October in recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. These breast cancer screenings are available to women older than 35 who have no health insurance or have high-deductible insurance, and who do not qualify for the Maine Breast and Cervical Health Program.
Mayo’s Imaging Center for Women will expand its hours throughout October, opening up one new slot at 7 a.m. Monday through Friday for the free mammograms. Interested and qualified women should call their doctor’s office for an appointment, since a doctor’s order is required for the mammograms.
All patients who have a mammogram in October at Mayo will be eligible for a free drawing during the month for a bag containing a sweat shirt, blanket, lunch tote and coffee mug. The Imaging Center for Women also will plant a pink ribbon tulip garden in front of the hospital during the month.
