Teen dies in County truck accident

LINNEUS – Hodgdon High School was mourning the loss of one of their own after a single-vehicle accident late Friday morning.

Robert Armstrong, 17, of Danforth was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident after he failed to negotiate a curve on Hodgdon Mills Road at 11:45 a.m.

According to Maine State Police Sgt. Julie Bergen, Armstrong was traveling east in his 1996 Ford Ranger pickup when he lost control and traveled 210 feet along the road’s soft shoulder before striking a utility pole and suffering massive head trauma.

Armstrong, who Bergen said was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, was on his way to Hodgdon High School where he was a senior.

Bergen said speed was a factor in the accident, which remains under investigation.

The impact took out the utility pole, and electrical power was out in the area for three hours.

Armstrong’s truck was declared a total loss.

Trooper Dennis Quint is the lead investigator in the accident, assisted by Bergen and Trooper Nicolas Casavant.
