BANGOR – The Acadia Health Education Coalition has been awarded a $50,000 grant by the Wal-Mart Foundation. The funds will be used to support the Maine Young Partners for Health Careers initiative, an effort to increase awareness of health care careers in Maine.

The program will promote www.mainehealthcareers.com, which links youths to educational and career opportunities in health care through a personalized plan.

Acadia programs include clinical rotation development and implementation for medical and allied health students; “Kids into Health Careers” presentations and curricular for elementary and secondary students throughout Maine; activity development for high school health occupations clubs, and career development programs with the universities and colleges in Maine.

The Acadia Health Education Coalition consists of a central office in Bangor and two regional offices in Presque Isle and Oquossoc. The organization also administers Maine’s only AIDS Education & Training Center, MeAETC, in Bangor.
