Calais High School site of music festival

CALAIS – The Calais High School Band and the Calais Music Boosters will hold the District VI Middle School Honors Music Festival beginning at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at Calais High School.

“This year’s festival concert is going to be absolutely wonderful,” Calais band director Alison Brennan said. “With 24 schools participating, it has the largest representation ever.”

Students from Washington, Hancock and parts of Penobscot counties have been working with their music teachers and practicing at home for a month.

“On Saturday, they will all meet together with their guest conductor, practice all day and present a concert that will knock your socks off,” Brennan said.

The concert also will feature 85 choral students under the direction of Rebecca DeWan, choral instructor from Houlton. After the chorus, guest conductor Kevin Mania, formerly Woodland’s band director and now Houlton’s middle school band director, will lead the band of more than 100 musicians.

Admission is $3 adults, $2 for students and seniors.
