The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded $3,458,802 for health initiatives across Maine, U.S. Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins announced.
“The Department of Health and Human Services funding will encourage important research and training programs,” Snowe and Collins said in a joint statement. “We are pleased to see continued federal support for Maine’s ongoing effort to facilitate advanced medical research throughout our state.”
The funding is distributed as follows:
. $475,000 to Coastal Enterprises Inc. in Wiscasset to enhance job opportunities for low-income individuals.
. $50,000 to Penquis Community Action Program in Bangor for training and technical assistance.
. $88,933 to Preble Street in Portland to help fund teen services.
. $15,476 to Youth and Family Services Inc. in Skowhegan to support operational costs.
. $50,000 to Shaw House Inc. in Bangor support operational costs.
. $1,103,086 to the University of Southern Maine in Portland for the adoption opportunities program.
. $75,000 to the Maine Community Action Association in East Wilton for training and technical assistance programs.
. $217,176 to the state of Maine to study child care availability and quality.
. $433,504 to MaineStream Finance in Bangor to enhance job opportunities for low-income individuals.
. $714,391 to the Maine Office of Elder Services to support a caregiver program.
. $236,236 to the Office of Elder Services to support Maine’s Alzheimer’s Diversion Initiative.
