School meeting slated for Old Town area

Residents of Old Town, Alton, Bradley, Greenbush and Milford are asked to attend a school planning meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, at the Old Town High School cafeteria to discuss the proposed reorganization of their schools into one regional school unit.

The proposal, still in draft form, comes in response to a state mandate to reduce the number of separate school units in Maine from the 290 that existed when the law went into effect to 80 or fewer. Schools have until Jan. 30, 2009, to submit voter-approved consolidation plans to the state Department of Education.

Copies of the proposed reorganization for Old Town-area schools will be available at Tuesday’s meeting. More information is available by calling Old Town Superintendent of Schools David Walker at 827-7171.
