Car strikes and kills horse in Palermo

PALERMO – A horse was killed Sunday when it galloped from a field and was struck by a passing car. A second car also struck the dead horse as it lay in the road. Neither driver was hurt.

The accident occurred on North Palermo Road at 6:18 p.m. Sunday. Cedric Berry, 67, of Thorndike was traveling south toward Freedom when he struck the running horse with the right front of his 2007 Honda. The car was a total loss.

Roscoe W. Croswell, 67, of Norway was traveling in the opposite direction in a 2003 Ford when he went around a car stopped in his lane and struck the downed horse. Damage to his vehicle was minimal.

Waldo County Sheriff’s Sgt. James Porter and Deputy Kevin Littlefield covered the accident.
