Fire Department plans Main Street open house

BANGOR – The Bangor Fire Department will hold its annual fire prevention open house Saturday at the Central Fire Station on Main Street.

This year’s open house, which runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., will feature educational activities for children and adults as well as opportunities to learn more about a range of heating methods and free blood pressure and glucose checks.

Activities for children include games, fire engine and ambulance tours, Sparky the Fire Dog, a seat belt convincer, smokehouse and Jaws of Life demonstration.

Adults can learn about space heaters and space heater safety from a Bangor Hydro-Electric Co. representative, about wood stoves and pellet stoves from a representative from Evergreen Home Solutions, about heat exchangers from a Hallowell International representative and about alternative heating from state and city fire officials.

Those who show up also can learn how to use a fire extinguisher and have their blood pressure and glucose level checked.
