ORONO – The University of Maine will hold several Halloween events:
. 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, and Saturday, Oct. 25 – The Maine Animal Club’s annual haunted hayride at UMaine’s Witter Teaching & Research Farm off College Avenue on University Farm Road. The cost is $5 for adults, $4 for children under 12 and students with a MaineCard ID, free for children under 5.
. 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31 – Stall-to-stall trick-or-treating for children of all ages at the Witter Farm. Children will have a chance to meet the university horses, some of which are expected to be in their own Halloween costumes.
The Maine Folklife Center will offer a collection of Halloween stories, including oral histories of holiday traditions in Maine and stories about haunted dormitories on campus. For more information, contact Pauleena MacDougall or Pamela Dean at 581-1891.
Monday, Nov. 3 – The Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos celebration in the Memorial Union’s Bangor Room led by students from the Universidad de los Americas in Puebla, Mexico, and Associate Dean of Students Angel Loredo. Traditional refreshments will be served, including Day of the Dead bread and punch. The program will also feature offrendas, or altars, decorated in memory of deceased individuals. This event is appropriate for ages 6 and up. Space is limited to 100 students. Reservations are required. For more information or to make a reservation, call Brett at 581-1901.
