O’Connor, Crusaders corral Ponies in overtime

DOVER-FOXCROFT – Shannon O’Connor tallied the game-winning goal with eight seconds remaining in overtime to lift seventh-ranked John Bapst of Bangor to a 3-2 Eastern Maine Class C field hockey quarterfinal victory over defending state champion Foxcroft Academy Wednesday.

Kelsey McGrath scored with 1:20 left in regulation on an assist from Marianne Ferguson to force the game into overtime. Emily Tilton scored a goal in the first half off a pass from Tori Huckestein. Megan Smith stopped 17 of 20 shots for the 6-8-1 Crusaders.

Sabrina Sharrow and Molly Cyr each posted a goal for Foxcroft Academy. Jen Seavey and Meghan Keane each grabbed an assist. Lexi Turner-Bragan made four saves on seven shots for the 11-4 Ponies.

Class A

Skowhegan 3, Lawrence 2

At Skowhegan, freshman Jess Skillings scored a goal with 6:51 left to make it 3-1 and provide the winning goal for the Indians.

Erin Seavey and Kylie Damon scored the other goals for the 14-1 Indians. Megan Hancock made three saves on seven shots.

For the 6-8-2 Bulldogs of Fairfield, Danielle Armour scored with 5:04 left to pull within one, but a tying goal was disallowed in the final minute. Kayla Robinson scored the other goal and Emily Lambert made eight saves on 18 shots.

Girls soccer

Calais 5, Woodland 0

At Woodland, Laura Remmington and Toni Cole each netted two goals in the first half to lead Calais by Woodland for the Downeast Athletic Conference Championship.

Alex McVicar added a goal in the second half for Calais. Hilary Hollingdale blocked eight of nine shots for the Blue Devils.

Taylor Cochran made 15 saves on 25 shots for the Dragons.
