AUGUSTA – Editorials in Augusta and Waterville newspapers urged voters to reject the second referendum question on the Nov. 4 ballot, which proposes a casino in Oxford County.

The Kennebec Journal in Augusta and Morning Sentinel in Waterville said in matching editorials Wednesday that while many people find enjoyment in gambling, for others it becomes an irresistible attraction to get an easy buck with next week’s grocery money.

The Bangor Daily News urged rejection of the proposal in an editorial in today’s editions.

In Lewiston, the Sun Journal Wednesday gave a qualified endorsement to Question 3, a $3.4 million bond issue for clean-water projects. The paper suggested the Legislature should have appropriated the money rather than send such a small borrowing package to voters.
