Zumba in fitness and arts

OLD TOWN – A new class called Zumba has participants moving and grooving to Latin and international rhythms, a twist of aerobics and dance.

The slogan “Ditch the workout, join the party!” truly sums up the experience of a Zumba class, said officials at the Old Town-Orono YMCA, where Zumba has arrived in full force. Kids, adults and older adults are all getting on board with the “party.”

Zumba has found a place in fitness, and is now finding its place in the arts through its diverse dance and music. Old Town Elementary School has asked the Old Town-Orono YMCA Zumba instructors to be a part of its yearly art festival Friday, Oct. 24.

They will introduce children to Zumba in two 45-minute sessions. The sessions, one for kindergarten through grade two and another for grades three through five, will introduce the youngsters to Latin dance moves including salsa, reggaeton, cumbia, samba and calypso, to name a few. Children will dance, listen and soak up the rhythms of Zumba.
