Dexter man’s death caused by exposure

DEXTER – A man whose body was found April 12 behind a Lower Main Street home died from hypothermia due to environmental exposure, a State Medical Examiner’s Office official said Thursday.

While that was the precise cause, there were other significant conditions involving the death of George Theriault, 32, of Ripley Road, according to Jim Ferland, administrator of the medical examiner’s office.

Those conditions, revealed during an autopsy by the medical examiner’s office, involved a post-traumatic brain injury combined with ethanol and multidrug toxicity, he said.

Theriault’s clothed body was discovered by a resident in the area. At that time, Police Chief Art Roy said it appeared the body had been in that location for a relatively short time.

Ferland released the findings Thursday.
