Petty cash, safe taken in Belfast church theft

BELFAST – A burglary task force is investigating an overnight break-in at Little River Baptist Church reported Thursday.

Police Chief Jeffrey Trafton said the break-in was discovered by the pastor when he arrived for work around 9 a.m. Entrance was gained by breaking a rear window, and petty cash and a safe were taken, Trafton said.

There have been a number of burglaries in the city and Waldo County, and a special task force consisting of Belfast police Detective Michael McFadden, Waldo County sheriff’s Detectives Jason Bosco and Merl Reed, and Maine State Police Detective Jason Andrews was called in to process the crime scene for evidence.
