BANGOR – A Mexican woman was sentenced Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Bangor to time served on employee verification fraud and other charges.
Mirna Lopez, 38, was living in Milbridge when she was arrested July 8 after an investigation into the documents submitted in 2005 and 2006 by applicants at the Worchester Wreath Co. in Harrington. The documents do not say when she worked for the company.
Lopez, according to court documents, admitted that she knew the documents were forged. She told investigators that she bought them in Houston four years ago.
She waived indictment and pleaded guilty in August to employment verification fraud, possession of false immigration and employment documents and Social Security fraud. All the charges were related to the false documents that she had used to gain employment at the wreath factory, according to court documents.
Lopez faced up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 on the possession of false documents charge. She faced up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 on the other charges.
After the sentencing, Lopez was turned over to immigration officials for deportation.
