A resident living on the east side of Bangor called police early Thursday evening to say a man who was possibly drunk was driving erratically.
Soon, Bangor police Officers Steve Jordan and Jim Dearing had stopped Roy Simpson, 54, a resident of Court Street. After administering an Intoxilyzer test that showed Simpson’s blood alcohol level at 0.33, the officers arrested him for aggravated operating under the influence.
The charge was elevated to aggravated OUI because his blood alcohol was so high, Sgt. Bob Bishop said Friday.
Simpson served 48 hours in jail last year for criminal threatening involving an incident in March 2007. Police said Simpson was intoxicated when he threatened a store clerk, saying he had a gun, after the clerk refused to sell him beer.
Simpson was taken to Penobscot County Jail after his arrest Thursday, but has since been released on bail, a jail official said Friday. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
