Dean, Doucette lift Rams to win Old Town, Eagles record victories

BANGOR – Erin Dean scored 12:37 into the first half off a Megan Doucette assist to give the No. 7 Bangor Rams a 1-0 girls soccer victory over the No. 10 Edward Little Red Eddies in an Eastern Maine Class A prelim Friday.

Kortnie Hudgens stopped all three shots for 10-4-1 Bangor.

Kristen Prue saved 20 of 28 shots for 7-6-2 Edward Little.

Friday’s prelim winners advanced to Tuesday’s quarterfinal round.

Messalonskee 2, Hampden 1

At Hampden, Katie Grenier scored two first-half goals as No. 11 Messalonskee of Oakland upset No. 6 Hampden Academy.

Amanda Simpson and Alison Omsberg provided assists for 6-8-1 Messalonskee. Sarah Jacques saved 12 of 13 shots.

Michaela Stephenson scored with 1:31 remaining in the second half with an Ashley Robinson assist. Julia Snyder stopped four of six shots as the Broncos finish with a 10-5 record.

Class B

Old Town 2, Foxcroft 0

At Old Town, Elise Jordan scored with 33:02 left in the first half off a Hilary Campbell assist to lift No. 6 Old Town over No. 11 Foxcroft Academy.

Erin St. Peter added an insurance goal in the second half with an assist from Jordan. Annie Cashon turned away all three shots to earn the shutout for 11-3-1 Old Town.

Sarah Whittemore made five saves on 13 shots for the 7-7-1 Ponies.

Ellsworth 4, Gardiner 0

At Ellsworth, Casey Wyman netted two goals as the fourth-seeded Ellsworth Eagles defeated the No. 13 Gardiner Tigers.

Ashley Smith and Taylor Tombley scored for the 11-2-2 Eagles. Maggie Harding recorded two assists and Clarissa Winkelmann had an assist. Angie Tucker saved one of two shots.

Jen Day turned away six of 12 shots for 4-9-2 Gardiner.

Caribou 4, Belfast 1

At Caribou, Caribou scored four unanswered goals as the fifth-seeded Vikings defeated No. 12 Belfast.

Abby Small led 12-3 Caribou with two goals. Jamie Martin and Jenna Selander added goals. Brittany Doak made four saves off nine shots.

Kaily Connor scored 3:48 into the first for the 5-9-1 Lions. Destiney Pinkham saved 11 of 22 shots.

Erskine 2, Rockland 1

At South China, Callie Thompson broke the 1-1 halftime score by scoring on a penalty kick six minutes into the second half to give No. 7 Erskine Academy the win over No. 10 Rockland.

Thompson also scored the 9-4-2 Eagles’ first goal two minutes into the game. Cyrstal Morin saved six of 12 shots.

Hannah Sirois tied it at 1-1 seven minutes into the first off a Cassie Elwell assist for 6-8-1 Rockland. Natalie Russell made nine saves off 15 shots.
