Considering the unsettled state of the economy, representatives of any eligible organization might want to apply for grants offered by The Harvest Fund at Maine Initiatives.
The application deadline is Wednesday, Nov. 12.
Charlie Bernstein reports the organization “is calling for grant applications from people planting the seeds of sustainable agriculture and an end to hunger.”
Harvest Fund grants, Bernstein said, range from $500 to $5,000 and “have supported healthy food advocacy, community gardens, heirloom seed preservation, defense of family farming, organic milk production, farm markets, co-ops and more.”
They are not for individuals, however, these grants are “for groups of people, working together, to grow something,” he wrote.
