Health Fair at DECH attracts nearly 900

MACHIAS – Down East Community Hospital’s third annual Health Fair and Flu Shot Clinic on Thursday drew nearly 900 people from Down East communities.

Nearly 800 flu shots and more than 165 cholesterol and glucose screenings were provided for free of charge, according to a press release from the hospital.

“Flu season can be serious, especially for elderly people and folks with health issues. Our hospital makes a significant investment to provide free flu shots and screenings as part of our commitment to the health and well-being of our community,” hospital CEO Wayne Dodwell said in the release.

In addition to the free flu shots and free screenings, health information was available from hospital departments and other health-related organizations from the community.

In addition, Down East Community Hospital’s Pediatric Department plans a free pediatric flu shot clinic noon to 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at Machias Medical Associates and 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12. at Milbridge Medical Center.

Milbridge Medical Center will also provide a series of free adult flu shot clinics 2-6 p.m. Thursdays, Nov. 6, 13 and 20, and 3-5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4.
