LaGrange man to stay in jail until sentencing

BANGOR – Jeremy Hart on Friday agreed to remain in the Penobscot County Jail until he is sentenced in the shooting death of his wife next month.

A sentencing date has not been set.

Hart, 35, of LaGrange waived his right to a hearing on a motion to revoke bail that alleged he had violated conditions by using drugs and not reporting a change of address to the court.

Hart pleaded guilty on Oct. 15 to manslaughter in the death of his wife, Kristen Smart Hart, 24, on Nov. 29, 2007. He admitted that he shot her in the bedroom of the couple’s home in LaGrange during a party.

Last week, Superior Court Justice William Anderson added a bail condition that prohibited Hart from using drugs or alcohol and allowed searches and testing. Hart was arrested Monday at the Brewer motel where he was staying after he allegedly failed a drug test.
