CALAIS – Morgan Rancourt, Jordan Leveille and Molly Woodward netted penalty-kick goals to lead the No. 11 Penobscot Valley Howlers to a 2-1 schoolgirl soccer win over the No. 6 Calais Blue Devils Friday in an Eastern Maine Class C prelim.
Calais and Penobscot Valley tied at 1-1 after two overtimes, but the Howlers scored three penalty-kick goals to Calais’ zero.
Molly Thompson scored the tying goal with 27:46 left in regulation for 10-4-1 Penobscot Valley. Casey McCloskey saved 16 of 31 shots.
Courtney Hill scored the game’s first goal off a Alex McVicar assist with 13:37 left in the first half. Hillary Hollingdale made 24 saves off 31 shots for 7-5-1 Calais.
Friday’s prelim winners advance to Tuesday’s quarterfinal round.
Washington Acad. 3, Dexter 0
At East Machias, Andi Flannery scored a goal in each half as the No. 7 Washington Academy Raiders shut out the No. 10 Dexter Tigers.
Brandilyn Hodgdon scored a first-half goal for the 13-1-1 Raiders. Irene Lewey assisted Flannery’s goal. Jesse Hardy saved four of six shots.
Maicee Gustin turned away two of 16 shots for 6-8-1 Dexter.
Friday’s prelim winners advance to Tuesday’s quarterfinal round.
Houlton 4, Lee Academy 1
At Houlton, Courtney Putnam scored two goals as No. 8 Houlton defeated ninth-seeded Lee Academy.
Lainey Herring had a goal and two ssists for the 9-5-1 Shiretowners. Chelsi Murray scored the game’s first goal and Amanda Fogarty recorded two assists. Madison Lezotte turned away six of eight shots.
Katelyn Mallet scored in the second half off a Heidi Sappier assist for 6-7-2 Lee Academy. Felicia Thorton saved 12 of 17 shots.
Class D
Bangor Chr. 4, LCS/MSSM 0
At Bangor, Kelly Robinson scored two second-half goals to help push No. 8 Bangor Christian to victory over No. 9 Limestone/Maine School of Science and Mathematics.
Whitney Holmes and Kristin Remmick added goals for the 7-7-1 Patriots. Demelza Ramirez and Samantha Martin provided assists. Moriah Bach saved 10 of 11 shots.
Caitlin Good made nine saves on 18 shots for the 6-9 Eagles.
Fort Fairfield 2, Hodgdon 1
At Fort Fairfield, Brooke Beaulieau broke the 1-1 tie off a Kaitlyn Kinsey assist with just 51 seconds left in regulation to lead No. 7 Fort Fairfield past No. 10 Hodgdon.
Keiza Bernaiche scored six minutes into the game for 9-5-1 Fort Fairfield. Katy Donovan saved three of four shots.
Sam Lycette scored with 17:53 left in the second half with an assist from Kariann Estabrook. Emmaly Jurson stopped 11 of 20 shots for 6-8-1 Hodgdon.
Washburn 3, DI-Stonington 2
At Washburn, Morgan Berube scored on a header off a direct kick from Rebecca Campbell with 7:20 left in the second overtime to give Washburn the regional quarterfinal win over the Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners.
Lindsey Blackstone and Angie Hernandez each scored a goal for the 8-6-1 Beavers. Campbell finished with two assists and Rachel Palmer had one save on five shots.
Sarah Boutilier scored both goals, one unassisted, for the 3-11 Mariners, who led 2-0 10 minutes into the second half. Esther Adams had one assist and Anika Powers made six saves on 10 shots.
