Stabbing in Belfast leads to prison term

BELFAST – A former city resident was given an 11-year prison term when he appeared in Waldo County Superior Court on Friday to be sentenced for stabbing a man in the back.

Scott Noble, 25, was sentenced to 11 years in prison with all but nine years suspended and two years’ probation for aggravated assault. In July a jury found Noble guilty of stabbing an acquaintance in the back during a fight at a Belfast trailer park in May 2006.

Deputy District Attorney Eric Walker said although the charge generally is considered a Class B felony, in Noble’s case it was elevated to Class A because of his extensive history of assaultive behavior.

While he was being held at the Waldo County Jail during jury selection in July, Noble ripped a badge from the shirt of a corrections officer and attempted to stab him with it. He told officers at the time that he had nothing to lose because a 40-year jail term was staring him in the face.
