BANGOR – A bail hearing for the Canadian man arrested earlier this month with more than half a ton of marijuana in his commercial tractor-trailer is scheduled to be held Monday in U.S. District Court in Bangor.

Federal prosecutors have filed a motion asking that Bruno Rousselle, 35, of Tilley Road, New Brunswick, be held without bail pending the resolution of his case. He was stopped at the Houlton border crossing on Oct. 16 headed for Massachusetts.

Rousselle is charged with the importation of 100 kilograms or more of marijuana. If convicted, he faces a minimum of five years and a maximum of 40 years in federal prison.

Rousselle, according to court documents, admitted that he was approached to deliver a load of marijuana to his boss around Oct. 14. His boss is not named in the affidavit, which was filed in federal court in Bangor.

The defendant allegedly said that he was told the load would be between 400 and 600 pounds, not the 1,064 pounds investigators recovered. The street value of the drugs was estimated at $2.5 million.

Rousselle told investigators that he was going to deliver the marijuana to Leominster, Mass., according to court papers.
