Shorey leads Silverados by Coyotes for 5th win

CALAIS – Sophomore Cam Shorey rushed for 144 yards and three touchdowns as Calais-Woodland beat Old Town 54-0 Saturday to earn its fifth win in its last six outings and a home game in the first round of next weekend’s LTC high school football quarterfinals.

The first-year varsity Silverados (5-3) will be seeded fourth and host No. 5 Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln (4-4) next Saturday.

Old Town (1-7) will play at Dexter next Saturday in a season-ending game.

Blake Ford added 75 rushing yards, two touchdowns and four two-point conversion runs for Calais-Woodland, which built a 48-0 halftime lead over the Coyotes.

Spencer McCormick added a 42-yard touchdown run and a two-point conversion run, while Eddie Flaherty returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown.

Flaherty also had a team-high 10 solo tackles and four assists to spark a Calais-Woodland defense that forced seven Old Town turnovers, including five pass interceptions – two by McCormick.

Hampden 55, Camden Hills 8

At Rockport, Nolan Turner rushed for 107 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries and also had a pass reception for 65 yards as the Broncos tuned up for postseason play with an exhibition victory over the Windjammers.

Hampden (4-3) is seeded sixth for the Pine Tree Conference Class B playoffs and will visit No. 3 Gardiner (5-2) next weekend.

Ryan Blake added 72 rushing yards and a touchdown for the Broncos as well as a pass interception he returned 38 yards, while Michael Jenkins had 69 yards and two touchdowns.

Nicholas Stevens rushed 40 yards for a touchdown, while Jon Haws had a 1-yard scoring run and Rich Hoch returned a fumble recovery 35 yards for a touchdown.

Cody Miller converted 7-8 extra-point kicks for Hampden.

The Broncos amassed 480 total yards, including 377 on the ground.

Jacob Powers scored on a 10-yard run for Camden Hills, with Tom Kennedy adding the two-point conversion rush.

Maranacook 50, Nokomis 13

At Newport, Pat Norwood rushed for three touchdowns and passed for two more scores as the visiting Black Bears earned their first victory of the season.

Norwood scored on runs of 7, 32 and 5 yards, and hit 6-foot-7 tight end Ben Johnson with touchdown passes of 60 and 66 yards.

Nokomis’ Paul Ketcham scored on a 10-yard run to pull the Warriors within 8-6 in the first quarter, but Maranacook countered with three more scores to take a 30-7 lead by the end of the period.

Nokomis’ final touchdown came on a 29-yard pass from Derek Amoroso to Ethan Curry in the fourth quarter.
