CARIBOU – City Clerk Judy Corrow said Monday that high voter turnout is expected in Caribou on Nov. 4, as the city already has taken in 1,000 absentee ballots.
During the last presidential election, 1,050 absentee ballots were cast, Corrow added.
“We expect that we are going to surpass 1,050 by Election Day,” she said. “We’ve got six days left and they are still coming in.”
A number of candidates are running for municipal and school board seats this year.
Three seats are open on the City Council, and six people are running for the three-year terms. Caribou residents Mary Kate Barbosa, Christopher A.R. Bell, Phillip J. McDonough II and Reginald R. Reed are vying for seats against incumbents Mark Goughan and Doug C. Morrell.
Four people are working to garner two open seats on the Caribou School District school board. Incumbents O. Kyle Blackstone and Scott M. Willey are seeking re-election. They are being challenged for the three-year terms by Loretta J. Harmon and Nancy L. Todd.
One seat is open on the Jefferson Cary Memorial Hospital Fund board, and Richard Mattilla is running unopposed for that position.
