Baseball players have inside code to play by

This is in reply to M.D. Wilson’s letter in the Fan Feedback of Oct. 21, regarding pitchers throwing at batters. To give M.D. Wilson a better understanding of pitchers “drilling” the batters, Bangor Public Library has a fairly current book by Ross Bernstein, titled “The Code.”

It gives a far greater understanding why many of these things happen in baseball and why it happens so often and is generally accepted by players and managers. It is very interesting reading if you like what goes on behind the scenes of baseball games.

After reading the book I understood at the time why the hitter motioned to his body not his head. There are lots of comments from many past and present great and not-so-great baseball players and managers about the code of baseball.
