ELLSWORTH – Bangor Hydro-Electric Co. crews were busy in coastal Hancock County on Monday dealing with power outages caused by the high, gusty winds that hit the area late Saturday night and Sunday.
The company reported a total of 493 outages remaining throughout its coverage area Monday, 452 of them in Hancock County. Spokeswoman Susan Faloon said the hardest-hit areas were in the coastal towns, including Brooklin, Deer Isle and on Mount Desert Island.
Additional crews have been deployed to Hancock County where significant tree damage was reported. Progress during the day was slow because of the severity of the damage, and crews from Bangor and Machias along with tree crews assisted in the restoration efforts.
By 5 p.m., there were 113 customers without power systemwide; 106 of them were in Hancock County.
