Beam goal paces UMF to NAC playoff victory

FARMINGTON – Ryan Beam scored off an Andrew Merriken assist with 21:29 left in regulation Tuesday to lead No. 3 University of Maine-Farmington to a 1-0 men’s soccer victory over No. 6 Thomas College of Waterville in the North Atlantic Conference quarterfinals.

The Beavers play at No. 2 Castleton State (Vt.) in Saturday’s semifinals.

Matthew Dennett turned away all seven shots for 7-7 UM-Farmington.

Keegan Curtin made six saves off seven shots for 7-12 Thomas.

Field hockey

New England College 5, USM 1

At Portland, Jodie Dresser scored two goals and assisted on two others as New England College defeated the University of Southern Maine of Gorham.

Kate Camaroli had a goal and an assist for the 15-4 Pilgrims. Marisa Ayotte and Brianna Gerrior also scored. Mary Roux and Jesse Kilcullen combined to make no saves on one shot.

Caitlin Albert scored an unassisted goal 5:47 into the first for the 8-10 Huskies. Allison Hill and Lyndsey Cronin combined to save 15 of 27 shots.
